Summary of Position

CMRU has several immediate openings for research internship in our Computer Tomography (CT) research department located in Vernon Hills, a northern suburb of Chicago, IL.

The intern period is from twelve weeks up to 6 months. During the internship, you will participate into exciting projects using latest technology for medical imaging. You will be mentored by leading experts in the field to gain hands-on experience to develop and validate products, explore the full potential for various clinical applications and features, and contribute to the next generation of CT systems. We are seeking candidates who are pursuing their MS/PhD degrees in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Medical Physics, Physics or any other equivalent STEM major.

Key Competencies

  • Good analytical and programming (C/C++/ python/ Matlab, etc) skills.
  • Proven ability to work and interact comfortably in a team culture with various technical backgrounds.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented.

Preferred Skills for Opening #1:

  • Strong background in machine learning.
  • Strong background in signal processing and image processing.
  • Experience in tomographic reconstruction, medical imaging, data correction or other imaging-related fields is a plus.

Preferred Skills for Opening #2:

  • Good understanding of X-ray physics, good knowledge of the X-ray CT system. Familiar with spectral CT/Photon-counting CT related system design, calibration and image formation chain.
  • Experimentation, system testing, and statistical data analysis.
  • Working experience with GATE/Geant4 is a plus.

Preferred Skills for Opening #3:

  • Strong knowledge of clinical applications and anatomy.
  • Strong knowledge of image processing, computer vision and image analysis.
  • Experience in tomographic reconstruction, medical imaging, data correction or other imaging-related fields is a plus.

Time Commitment

This is a full-time, temporary position that requires a commitment of:

  • 3–6 months
  • 37.5 hours per week, Monday–Friday onsite during regular business hours
