CMRU has an immediate opening for an Image Reconstruction Scientist within the PET Image Reconstruction & Physics Group. We work on current and next generation PET image reconstruction algorithms, physical corrections, image quality assessment and machine learning approaches in support of Canon’s TOF-PET product line. Both experienced and entry-level positions are available, depending on the applicant’s qualifications.

Candidates are expected to have a background in image reconstruction, with preference for experience in PET, SPECT or CT and will work on the latest image reconstruction algorithms to improve the quantitation of detection performances of the resulting images. The new hire will run accurate physics simulation software to generate realistic data for use in evaluations and will also work on the physical correction steps in the image reconstruction chain to further improve image quality. Experience in performing real phantom scans and having applied neural network-based techniques to image reconstruction would be pluses.


  • Development of new image reconstruction algorithms as well as the management and improvement of existing image reconstruction algorithms
  • Generation of datasets both via realistic simulations as well as phantom scans
  • Solid understanding of the workings of physical corrections in the image reconstruction chain such as attenuation, scatter, randoms and deadtime corrections and a willingness to improve them
  • Initiative to determine meaningful projects and areas to work on followed by improvements of CMRU’s capabilities in those areas
  • Effective communication of the results to other group members, PET members within CMRU and broader CMSC
  • Presentation of the work and CMRU’s accomplishments at conferences and publication of the work at journal and conference proceedings



  • Ph.D. or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Physics or related field


  • At minimum, related Ph.D. or post-doc work with image reconstruction experience is necessary. Direct experience with PET scanner and/or algorithm development is a plus. For entry level candidates, industry experience is not required. For senior candidates at least 4-6 years of post-Ph.D. experience, preferably in a product development environment, is required.
