SUMMARY OF POSITION
CMRU has an immediate opening for an Image Quality Scientist to be part of a global team supporting medical physics and image quality performance investigations. This position will be responsible for creating and applying image quality metrics and conducting performance evaluations for the vascular lab modalities to a) support validation, benchmarking, and optimization of products, b) provide scientific support to help successfully clear products and product claims through FDA and other regulatory bodies, and c) aid clinical research at Canon luminary sites with physics-based and data science-based image quality assessment.RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and apply objective image quality metrics and methods for characterizing image quality.
- Develop and apply deep learning, human observer, and model observer approaches to image quality assessment.
- Analyze image quality data and generate reports.
- Support image quality assurance and validation programs.
- Collect phantom image quality data on Canon interventional systems.
- Develop solutions to new technical needs identified by luminary sites and R&D.
- Support Canon’s work with national and international organizations, such as ACR, FDA, IEC, AAPM, and MITA, on scientific matters involving vascular lab systems.
- Periodically facilitate collaboration between luminary researchers.
- Submit weekly progress notes and quarterly reports.
- Present talks regarding Canon imaging technology and related research and development.
- Write company internal and peer-reviewed scientific publications.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Ph.D. in the relevant area of specialization, including Physics, Medical Physics, Biomedical Engineering, Data Science, or the equivalent. Candidates with Master’s degrees who have significant image quality experience will be considered.
Experience
- Basic understanding of interventional workflow.
- General understanding of 2D & 3D image processing algorithms for interventional x-ray systems.
- Background in fluoroscopy/X-ray imaging technology including: basic science, image quality, reconstruction and hardware design.
- Background in image/data science including deep learning and model observer or human observers is preferred.
- Basic proficiency with MATLAB and/or Python.
Key Competencies
- Experience with reading, analyzing, and interpreting common scientific and technical journals in English.
- Proven ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers or regulatory agencies.
- Experience writing presentations and articles for publications that conform to prescribed style and format both for technical review and in layman’s terms.
- Present information effectively to a variety of people, including senior management, groups, and/or board of directors.
- Ability to translate complex ideas into easy-to-understand explanations.
Work Location
- This position is based in CMRU’s main office in Vernon Hills (Chicago), Illinois.
- A hybrid work schedule will allow the ideal candidate the flexibility to work from home on some days and from the office on other days based on the ongoing needs of the business.
Travel
- Ability to complete domestic and international travel up to 10% of time
